Calgary-based author Frank O'Keeffe has just released his latest novel, a science-fiction adventure. 

In the near future, Earth has lost its battle with climate change. Infrastructure, basic services and food production have all collapsed from the ravages of violent storms, droughts and rising sea levels. People are starving and seeking a safe place to live.

Dr. Richard Duran is no exception. Months ago he applied to be a passenger on a U.S.-developed rocket. It’s destined for the planet of Ione, which boasts a climate similar to Earth. Now he’s been selected, but must make his way from New Brunswick, Canada, to the launch site in Maine, U.S.A. With no transportation and a critical deadline, the journey is near impossible.
