Stillwater: A Trauma-Informed Writing Retreat

HomeWorkshop or Retreat

Event: Jun 7, 2024 | 03:00 AM (EDT)

Hello! I (award-winning writer Lauren Carter) am co-facilitating a transformative weekend of calm, creative expression from June 7-9, 2024 at Ontario's beautiful and historic Loretto Maryholme Retreat Centre on Lake Simcoe. Join me and writer and physiotherapist Anita Allen to focus on grounding and nervous system regulation alongside creative workshops to fire your imagination in fiction and creative non-fiction.

Relax in century-old Edgar House’s sunroom as you write within a circle of co-regulating support. Consider your memoir or novel from a seat on the dock or while walking the forest labyrinth or wildflower meadow. Connect with a group of like-minded writers over delicious family-style meals.

What you'll get:

  • Easy accessibility from Toronto (just an hour's drive north)
  • An early start (arrive at 2 p.m.) and late departure (3 p.m.),
  • Two night's accommodation in shared or single occupancy rooms in historic houses
  • Three workshop sessions to learn about the nervous system, ways to regulate, and approaching your writing in creative, curious, and safe ways
  • Catered and prepared meals, enjoyed family style with the group, and self-serve coffee/tea
  • Access to twelve acres of gardens, forest, and lake-front property, including a forest labyrinth, use of a canoe, and a dock
  • A gift bag to welcome you to the event and a closing raffle
  • New friends, new writing, and new awareness of your relationship with your words and yourself!
  • $200 off if you book with your deposit by April 10th!
