Vaughan Public Libraries is looking for an energetic, traditionally published author who resides in Vaughan or the surrounding area to serve as VPL’s Writer-in-Residence. The residency is designed to encourage exchanges between the author and the community in May and June 2026.  

During their residency, the selected author will support aspiring writers through workshops, one-on-one consultations, and mentorship as well as connect with readers, writing communities, and the general public through outreach and programming. The WIR will also have the time, space, and resources to develop their own work portfolio. 

This is a full-time position (35 hours/week) that may include days, evenings and/or weekends. The Writer-in-Residence will devote 50% of their time to library programs and projects for aspiring writers, and 50% of their time to personal writing projects. The WIR will be stationed at the Civic Centre Resource Library and travel to other VPL locations as needed. Workspace will be provided.
