Professor Alaa Al Tamimi, an Iraqi-Canadian citizen, received his B.Sc, M.Sc in
Civil Engineering from Baghdad University in 1972,1979 and his Ph.D. in
Structure Engineering from Sorbonne University (SUPM) in Paris, France (1985).
He was exiled from Iraq in 1996 and immigrated to Canada. Dr. Alaa returned to Baghdad
in 2004 to become the first elected Mayor of Baghdad in Iraq's History. It is one
of the oldest capitals in the Middle East, established in 768 AD, with over 7 million. During his service, he oversaw urban development and new city planning and managed municipal environmental and infrastructure requirements. He returned to Canada in 2006 to establish an Urban Reform Consultant, an international engineering consultant, a research instructor, and a vocational
training provider.
He is the CEO of Urban Reform Consultant, a pioneer engineering firm based in Ontario, Canada. URC was established in 2006 to provide professional services, with over four decades of engineering and management experience.
Dr. Alaa has also been a visiting professor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
He has a vast history of accomplished projects globally. Moreover, he is a thinker, researcher, and writer with over seven Arabic, French, and English books.
