Panelist bios
Lana Button is an award-winning author of over 20 books for children. Lana’s books have been shortlisted for awards including the Shining Willow, the Blue Spruce, the Jean Throop IODE, and the Hamilton Literary Award and have received the Crystal Kite Award, the IBBY Outstanding Book for Children with Special Needs and the Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Award. Her books have been named Best Bets and Best Books by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, have been recognized by the CBC, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Globe & Mail, and have been named Best Book of the Year by Bank Street Books, Kirkus and the New York Public Library. Fred Horler has spent 37 years working in children’s publishing. The last 20 years have been at Groundwood Books where he served most recently as their Senior Marketing Director. He has worked with countless authors and illustrators promoting their books in both Canada and the US. Fred has just recently retired.
Danny Neville is the author of the Little Bee chapter book series from Annick Press, including The Buzz About the Party (2026), The Storytime Extravaganza (2026) and The Best Birthday Ever (coming in 2027). As an elementary school educator and teacher-librarian, he has lived and worked in various countries around the world including the UK, Japan, Colombia, Egypt, Brazil, Belgium, and Canada. He is actively involved in the world of school libraries as the editor-in-chief of The Teaching Librarian magazine, the official publication of the Ontario School Library Association. Danny is a member of the Writer’s Union of Canada, the CCBC, IBBY, CANSCAIP, and SCBWI. He lives in Ottawa with his husband and daughters.
